Guide to Appointing a Structural Engineer

You will probably have had a specific reason to visit our website, whether it is for a survey, calculations, Party Wall help, or other reason, and it is essential you make an informed choice regarding the Structural Engineer you employ.

The following are some basic guidelines to help you make your decision:

  • The Structural Engineer should be able to demonstrate a proven track record and be willing to provide proof of Professional Indemnity insurance and professional qualifications. You can also check with the Local Authority's Building Control Department that the Structural Engineer is well known and reputable.

  • Your project should be carried out by a suitably qualified Structural Engineer.

  • The practice should ideally be Quality Assured to BS EN ISO 9001:2008.

  • All reports, calculations, and details for your property or project should be thoroughly checked by another qualified member of the practice.

  • A senior member of staff (Partner, Associate Partner, Director, or Chartered Engineer) should be actively involved with your project and should be your point of contact with the practice.

  • The Structural Engineer should have sufficient resources to be able to visit the site and provide advice rapidly to minimise delays and additional builders' costs, if unforeseen problems develop.

The above features are central to Philip Goacher Associates' commitment to all of our customers, and we will provide you with the most cost effective solutions in the quickest possible time frame.

Should you have any further queries relating to the appointment of a suitable Structural Engineer, or wish to make an appointment, contact us on (01903) 217723.
